Indian top rank Paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran reach Knock out in his debut ITTF world cup and join world top 8 palyer in round of 16.
Sathiyan create two huge upset after coming back from behind in both matches to finish on the top of group D.
World no 30 Sathiyan was in group D with world no 22 Frenchman Simon Gauzy and world number 24 Jonathan Groth from Denmark. In first match of group it was Simon who was against Indian Paddler. Sathiyan was down by two set before making it 4-3 after a thrilling seventh set encounter.
Final score line of match was 11-13,9-11,11-8,14-12,7-11,11-5,11-8.
It was fourth meeting between Sathiyan and Simon and this was first time India was on the top of Frenchman.
The 26-year-old from Chennai had finished sixth at the Asian Cup in Yokohama, Japan, in April to qualify for the World Cup for the first time.
Sathiyan, who is the lone Indian participating in the tournament, was now up against world number 24 Jonathan who has already lost a match to Groth.
Groth have to win this match with giving only one game to qualify and Sathiyan need to win atlest two game to qualify for next round.
But Sathiyan have something else in his mind he He sealed his progress with an impressive 11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 16-14, 8-11, 11-8 win over Groth.
Sathiyan is Only second Indian who make it toknock out of ITTF world cup
Sathiyan is only second Indian behind Achanta Sharath Kamal who make it to Knockout of ITTF world cup. Achanta Sharath Kamal Qualify to Knockout in 2014, where he lost against Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany in seven set thriller.
It will be interesting to see weather he can become first Indian to reach QF of world cup. Knockout draw will be announce later today. Knockout is set to play tomorrow.
ITTF world cup is played between 20 player across the world who qualify throw various continental cups.
Top eight according to world ranking start from Knockout while other are divided into four group of three player. And two from each group join them.
