Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created history at BWF Thailand Open 2019 by becoming the first Indian Pair to win Super 500 and above 500 tournament after defeating the World Champions Chinese duo.

The pair won the men’s doubles title with an impressive victory against 3rd seeded Chinese pair of Li Jin Hui and Liu Yu Chen in a thrilling three setter match.

Satwik Chirag won Badminton Tournament

In the first game, Satwik and Chirag, who were the last remaining Indians in the competition, did brilliantly to hold their nerves in their first big final and got off to a fast start by taking the lead during mid-game interval by 11-9. The game was neck and neck after the mid-game interval but the Indians stepped up right at the end to take the lead in the match and won it by 21-19.

The unseeded Indians were down in comfortable lead too in the second game but the Chinese duo made a dramatic comeback by clinching 5 straight points and won the game by 18-21 to level the things.

Li Jin Hui and Liu Yu Chen had the momentum going into the decider but the Indians simply didn’t give them a chance and held their nerves throught out the decider to close out a memorable win. It’s no doubt a historical day for Indian Badminton.
