Sebastian Vettel scores his 50th career victory, and with it takes the lead of the championship ahead of Lewis Hamilton who was defending champion here in Canada.

Vettel won his 3rd race of the season & a 2nd in Montreal to go top of the Drivers’ Championship, a point clear of Lewis Hamilton. With this victory, Sebastian Vettel becomes only the 4th driver in F1 history to win 50 races.

Vettel converted pole position into a lead at the first corner and was never headed as he kept Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas at arm’s length throughout the race.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took third after a valiant but unsuccessful attempt to pass Bottas through the first two corners.

Hamilton started fourth but dropped back to finish fifth and is a point behind Sebastian Vettel at the one-third point of the season.

Sebastian Vettel made some history for his Italian team this weekend, first by taking pole on Saturday, the first time in 17 years since Michael Schumacher did so in 2001.

And then taking a sweet victory and winning the Canadian GP for the first time since Schumacher did so in 2004.

It was the 300th F1 race for two-time champion Fernando Alonso of McLaren, good for fourth all-time. The Spaniard was forced out with engine trouble after 42 laps.
