South Asian Basketball Championship : India crushed Maldives by 84-42 Asian Basketball Championship : India crushed Maldives by 84-42

Indian Basketball Team started their campaign with a dominating win over Maldives by 84-42 at South Asian Basketball Championship.

India is chasing the “five-peat” that is winning the tournament for fifth straight time.

Amritpal Singh was the highest scorer for India by scoring 25 points followed by Anil kumar who scored 10 points in the match ! Zilaal Mohamed scored 12 points, highest for Maldives.

In the first set, Indian team totally dominated the Maldives challenge & smashed 22 points, conceding just 3 points. Maldives came back fighting in second set by scoring 12 points but India was in no mood to spare as they scored 24 points in the 2nd set to enhance the lead by 46-15.

Indian domination continued after the half time too as Men in Blue puts 22 points in 3rd while conceding just 13. In the fourth & final set, India scored poor 16 points while Maldives hits 14 points.

India will now meet Srilanka on 21st May !!

The Championship is played in a round robin format and the team with the best record at the end of this championship will progress from the South Asian region to the FIBA Asia Cup scheduled for 17th to 27th August in Beirut, Lebanon. A round robin format is when each team will face every other team in the tournament once, and the final standings will be based on win/loss statistics.

Winner of South Asian Basketball Championship will qualify for the Asian Cup to be held in Lebanon from 17th-27th August.
