Indian tennis raising star Sumit Nagal wins Buenos Aires Challenger Singles title as he beats World no 166 Facundo Bagnis 6-4, 6-2 in Final.
This is Sumit's 2nd Challenger title,his previous title was at the ATP Bengaluru Challenger in 2017 on hard courts. This is his first one on clay, and his first one outside India as well.This is first Challenger title for India in 2019 Season.
In the semi-final, 22 year old had steamrolled past World no 108 Thiago Monteiro of Brazil 6-0, 6-1.Nagal was the seventh seed in the tournament.
Nagal, who is now at a career-high ranking of 159. He is guaranteed another 80 ranking points by virtue of the winning Buenos Aires Challenger title. He is set to rise up the ATP rankings by around 35 spots.
With this win he become first Indian to win single tournament on clay and first one from Asia to win Buenos Aires Challenger. He was only one from Asia who was competing in the tournament.
After making a dream grand slam debut opposite tennis maestro Roger Federer, this was second final for 22-year-old in a span of a fortnight. He finish runner-up in Banja Luka Challenger last week
SUMIT NAGAL is enjoying sensation 2019,apart from taking set from great Roger Federer, he has now winner and runner-up finish in ATP Challenger tour.Nagal also have played six Semifinal in 2019.
Next Challenger for Sumit Nagal
He now moves on to the ATP Campinas Challenger in Brazil starting tomorrow, again on clay. He is seeded 6th there and has a bye in the 1st round. He will take on the winner of the match between Gastao Elias(POR) and Martin Cuevas(URU) in next round.
With his current form, he may get direct entry in 2020 first Grand-slam Australian open. He is currently 2nd highest rank Indian in ATP ranking after Prajnesh Gunneswaran, who is rank 81.
