Sunil Kumar showed total dominance in the final, as he beat Azat Salidinov (KGZ) in one-sided bout by 5-0. Sunil started first round with high energy and earn one point by throwing his opponent to passivity. he takes full benefit of his opponent passivity position and earns two crucial points.
He didn't show any sign to slow down even with lead on his side and earn two more points in second half by pushing his opponent out of the circle. Sunil who was playing his second consecutive Asian Championship final didn't make any mistake and win First Greco roman Gold for India after a span of 27 years.

Rome Ranking Series silver medallist Sunil becomes only third Indian after Kartar Singh (1983) and Pappu Yadav (1993) to win Greco Roman Gold Medal. Sunil makes an impressive run to the finals. He demolished Japan’s Takahiro Tsuruda in the quarter-final round 8-2 and went on to register a brilliant came back victory over Azamat Kustubayev of Kazakhstan in the semi-final bout.
Kumar was down 1-8 in his semi-final bout against his Kazakh opponent but made a great comeback, winning 11 points on the trot to finish the bout at 12-8. This was Sunil’s second consecutive Asian Wrestling Championships final. In the 2019 Asian Championships, he had to settle for a silver.
Arjun Halakuri Won Bronze Medal in 55Kg
Earlier Arjun Halakuri won first medal for India at Asian Wrestling championship. He beat Korean Wrestler Donghyeok Won by 8-4 at Greco Roman 55kg.
Halakurki made a fruitful rally, after trailing his Korean 1-4 at one stage. The win comes as a big consolation for Arjun to lift the recovery of his loss in the semi-final stage. Earlier in the day, Arjun Halakurki (55kg) lost his semi-final bout from a winning position. He lost 7-8 against Iran’s Pouya Mohammad Naserpour.
in Another Bronze medal bout of Day, Mehar Singh Loses to Roman KIM (KGZ) in a close match by 2-3 in 130kg. Mehar had made the Indian team at the last minute. Just three days before the tournament, India’s number one in 130 kg, Naveen, pulled out of the event due to injury.
Earlier in the day, India’s big hope Sajan Bhanwal lost out in the opening round. Sajan losses against Under 23 Asian Champion of 2019 Renat Iliazuulu of Kyrgyzstan in the first round. Sachin Rana (63kg) faced a massive defeat against Elmurat Tasmuradov by a margin of 8-0.
India had bagged one bronze, three silver medals and no gold in the Greco-Roman competition in the Asian Championships last year. So overall India has overtaken his last year performance on first days with gold medal.
