India’s Trisha Deb, Lily Chanu Paonam and Jyothi Surekha Vennam beat Germany in the compound women’s team semifinals at the 2017 Hyundai World Archery Championships, 232-227, to secure a gold medal match against Colombia and a chance at making history in Mexico City.
The nation has won four silver medals at the senior World Archery Championships, but never a gold.
“We are so proud of ourselves; it’s amazing to make the gold final,” said Paonam.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam added: “We will shoot the same as today and try to win gold. It will be our first time shooting against Colombia and they are good, so we’re excited about it.”
The Indian squad had the highest per-match average of any team in the field in Mexico.
6th seeded India beat Russia by 232, Denmark by 233 and then Germany in the elimination matches by 232 .
Colombia are seeded 4th and they beat Top Seeded Korea in Semis in a close encounter by 232-231 .Final Match Is Schedule for tomorrow .
