Indian women pair of Manika Batra & Mouma Das has created history after reaching the quarters of World Table Tennis Championship here at Dusseldorf, Germany.
In the pre-quarters, 13th seeded Indian pair was up against 7th seeded pair of Li J. (Netherlands) & Li Q. (Poland) but the pair didn’t showed up for the tie & hence Indian pair sails through quarters after getting a withdraw from their opponents.
This will be the first time in a decade or so that a Indian table tennis player will participate in the quarters of World Championship.
Earlier, Indian pair did well to overcome the challenge from 18th seeded Russian pair of Noskova & Tailakova in a closely-fought match.
The match went on to seven sets and despite 0-2 down, Indian girls showed a great dedication & bounced back incredibly to take the match by 4-3, being 0-2 down at initial stage. They defeated their opponents by 12-14, 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 4-11, 11-5, 11-9.
The road to the semis look tough now as Indian pair would meet the winner of the match between 4th seeded Chinese pair & 27th seeded Japanese pair. The match seems extremely tough if you are up against Chinese in table Tennis.
Sharath Kamal in men’s singles remains the only hope of India except Women’s Doubles.
43rd seeded Kamal in men’s singles defeated his opponent from Spain by 4-1 (11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8) to reach the second round. He will take on 20th seeded kou from Ukraine in the second round.
While, Manika Batra who reached the second round after defeating her Poland opponent had to face defeat from the hands of 27th seeded kim k. of korea by 11-3, 5-11, 6-11, 6-11, 8-11.
Sharath kamal will be up against his opponent by today evening while Women’s Doubles Indian pair will try their luck in quarters tomorrow at World Table Tennis Championship.
