World Table Tennis Championship : Sharath Kamal to Lead Indian Challenge Table Tennis Championship : Sharath Kamal to Lead Indian Challenge

Achanta Sharath Kamal will lead the Indian team at the 2017 World Table Tennis Championships, to be held at Dusseldorf in Germany from May 29 to June 5.

The top-ranked Indian at World No.53, Kamal will have to shoulder most of the burden of the eight-member side.In the previous edition played in China, he was in great form before he was forced to pull out due to an injury. 

In the women section, India will rely on experienced Mouma Das along with promising Manika Batra and Ayhika Mukherjee apart from current national champion Madhurika Patkar.

The other members in male section includes olympian Soumyajit Ghosh, G. Sathiyan and Harmeet Desai apart from Sharath himself.

Achanta Sharath may be playing his last World Championships & 34-year old paddler will be looking to display a great action of table tennis in the championship.

The reigning national champion was in good form during the Asian Championships in China recently and gave the much higher ranked Japanese opponent a run of his money in the quarter-finals.

The Indian team will also play the doubles. In the mixed doubles, Manika Batra and Madhurika Patkar with pair up with G. Sathiyan and Harmeet Desai. In men doubles, the first pair will be Sharath and Sathiyan while the second will be Ghosh and Desai. While in the women doubles, Ayhika will partner Madurika while Manika-Mouma duo will form India’s second pair.

After the World Table Tennis Championship, India’s first league, “Ultimate Ping Pong” will commence from the month of July.
